George Huntley - Song Stories

It All Comes Back to Love - 4th Album released in 2007 - Song Stories:
  1. It All Comes Back To Love – I was trying to write the last song on the album and this one came out. John added the theme played on the recorder through a bit of technical mastery. It had the feel of a special song the whole time.

  2. We’re Getting Older – Written prior to my 40th birthday. The inspiration was all of my older relatives…

  3. You Made Me Believe – A wedding song for my nephew Matt and his wonderful bride Megan. When I asked them what song came to mind when they thought of each other they said the Monkees “I’m A Believer”.

  4. Sarcasm – Come on, we’ve all felt this way. We really do have a waste water treatment plant with park benches. What could they possibly have been thinking?

  5. Have I Changed Much? – Written in college. I guess I’ve changed a bit…

  6. I Believe – Written while driving around and thinking about the world.

  7. The Lord’s Prayer – OK, I didn’t write the words. This setting came to me during a sermon that I wasn’t listening to – sorry Bert. I was intrigued by doing something different with it.

  8. Is Anybody Home? – Written after seeing “An Inconvenient Truth”. Hello?

  9. There Are Times – Another college song that I can finally get out of my head.

  10. It All Comes Back To Love II – “II” is for Judy (who is my #1) and essentially chronicles our relationship. Things like her asking me out and paying for the ring are all true. (I did pay her back.) If you know Judy you also know her passion for sports. My wife turns heads at sporting events but it’s not her wardrobe. Her comments are always clean but she has a certain volume…
Special thanks to John Grant for sharing your amazing talent. I am perpetually in awe of your ability to create guitar licks and backgrounds on the spot. John played every background track on the record. I really appreciate your easy style, consummate professionalism and your friendship over the years. It is a true joy to work with you. John has a jazz album out with his band called True Spirit. I strongly recommend it – www.truespiritmusic.com.

Thanks also to my nephew, Jimmy Lewis, for the fabulous high harmony back up vocals on We’re Getting Older and The Lord’s Prayer. There are some notes I just can’t reach, and really no one should be able to but it’s cool that Jimmy can!

Thanks to Judy for letting me do this. Recording an album is perhaps the most selfish thing I can imagine doing and I am so grateful to be able to do it. Your love and support keep me going – wherever I may be.

It's The Journey - 3rd Album released in 2001 - Song Stories
Every song is a story and naturally has a story. The short versions are:
  1. It’s The Journey – Written in 2000 on a long drive from Baltimore to Indy. When doing soul searching it helps to remember that it doesn’t always matter where you’re going.

  2. I Pledge My Love – Written in 1997 and recorded in 1998 for my niece’s wedding. It came to me on a quiet walk down an English canal path in Marple, UK. (I only got a few strange looks as I was singing to myself.)

  3. You Touch My Heart – Written in 1999 on a drive from Liverpool, UK to Marple, UK after visiting the Beatles museum. Amazingly I didn’t wreck the car. Inspired by John Lennon and, of course, Judy.

  4. Isabel & Dion – Written in 2001 for my god child and her twin brother. They are two very precious babies who had a long struggle to make it to this world.

  5. You’re Still You – Written in 2001 after a conversation with a friend. It’s hard to stay grounded when emotions run high.

  6. I Will Always Love You – Written in 2000 with Brian Kerr and Chris Lines for my nephew’s wedding.

  7. My Heart Won’t Say Goodbye – Written in 1998 in memory of Patrick Wilson 1/25/65 – 8/11/98. A friend and co-worker who died from Leukemia.

  8. Choices – Written in 1980 shortly after arriving at college. It’s asks the question of how do you know who’s the right one for you. I found out a few years later…

  9. One Small Step – Written in 1998 at an American Diabetes Association meeting where we were discussing how much we still needed to do and how we were going to get there. (I tuned out the meeting for awhile when the song came. Sadly, no one noticed I was gone.) This was the only song recorded at Hit City Records in Indianapolis and engineered by Tim Brickley.

  10. Thank You Mother – Written in 1992 on Mother’s Day and dedicated to the best mom in the world – mine. This one was recorded in 1992.

  11. Here We Are Again – Written in 2001 while driving from Wilmington, NC to Raleigh, NC. We were at a critical point in evaluating a business and life change and it was a familiar scary feeling.

  12. Don’t Forget To Love The Lord – Written in 1999 and I think an appropriate closing number for the album.
All songs written by George Huntley except I Will Always Love You written by George Huntley, Brian Kerr and Chris Lines.

GLOBAL DREAMING – 2nd Album released in 1997 - SONG STORIES
  1. SARAH’S DREAM – Written for the American Diabetes Association and inspired by several meetings held at Camp Glyndon in Maryland. Most of the song was written on a drive home from an ADA strategic planning meeting.

  2. WORLD PLEDGE – No real story for this one, but it has been used in a Baltimore City School program and some ADA Walks with kids singing along. I just thought the concept was better.

  3. LOOK TO TOMORROW – Written as a graduation song for a very talented girl in the St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church youth group which I was leading. Performed in church at a graduation celebration.

  4. WITH THESE RINGS – Written for a cousin’s wedding and used many times since. They rarely saw each other until the wedding.

  5. A PART OF ME STILL CRIES – This is about the death of my father. Writing about it helps.

  6. I’M SO GLAD – A love song for Judy.

  7. PLANE TO BUDAPEST – This song was actually written on a plane to Budapest. It was about my fourth trip and I was tired of going over there. I think it shows…

  8. LORD GUIDE OUR WAY – This was written and performed for a going away service for a pastor who was leaving St. Margaret’s. I have been able to use this on many occasions.

  9. IN YOUR LIGHT – Written driving home from a party at my Aunt’s house. It was fun to play with the harmonies in the studio.

  10. PSALM 90 – This was written by my good friend Brian Kerr. I really love this song and was really glad to get to record it.

STAIRWAY BY THE LAKE – 1st Album released in 1991 - SONG STORIES
Most of these are songs written in high school and college. The ones with stories I still remember are:
  1. VIRGINIA – I had a friend in high school who had a rough home life and she would escape to a make believe world in her mind which she called Virginia. I’m not sure but I think she picked the name so people wouldn’t figure her out. I was amazed that she shared the story with me. I unfortunately lost track of her and she has never heard this.

  2. SILENCE – A classic college romance break up song…

  3. STAIRWAY BY THE LAKE – This was inspired by a trip to Geauga Lake near Cleveland with Judy. We actually sat on a small portable stairway and had a great conversation about our life to come. My dad knew I was in trouble when he heard this one…

  4. MORE AND MORE – I wrote this the night of my first date with Judy. I couldn’t sleep so I went to find a piano. I still like the original version better than this recording, but we couldn’t get it to work.

  5. MISSIN YOU – A lame attempt at country. I had fun singing the low notes.

  6. FORGET ABOUT HER – Written for the date I took to my high school senior prom. I didn’t understand girls at the time. (Still don’t …) I could not get this song out of my head, so I had to record it. Trust me that spending 8 hours in a studio on one song purges it from your mind.

  7. WE CAN WIN THE GAME – Written for an American Diabetes Association Black Tie Gala that was sponsored by the Baltimore Orioles. The gala was at Camden Yards. It was very cool. I sang this at the Indianapolis gala in 2002.
