George Huntley's Bio

George has been writing songs since high school (which was a very, very long time ago). He comes from a musical family, but for obvious reasons took the “don’t quit your day job” route. By day he is a CPA and finance officer. By night he is a CPA and finance officer. Occasionally he gets an opportunity to sing in church choir or at American Diabetes Association events.

George doesn’t really play an instrument, a fact for which his wife is very grateful, so all of the marvelous background tracks are played by some very talented friends. He played trombone for 8 years and realized that it was too hard to sing along with. He plays piano with three fingers and a sense of rhythm that is worthy of a CPA (ergo – no sense of rhythm). One day one of those very talented friends gave George the wise counsel that he should stop playing the piano because he was limiting his song writing ability to his ability to play the piano. It was a very polite way of saying that he is a lousy piano player, but in fact improved his songwriting immensely. Now George writes songs by singing them into his voice mail. The true test of a strong melody is if you can still remember it while waiting for the beep. Unfortunately George now has a very short commute to his office so his song writing productivity has slowed. (It has nothing to do with getting older and the day job.)

George’s other passion is the fight against diabetes. George and his sister both have had type 1 diabetes for over 25 years. He has been an active volunteer with the American Diabetes Association since 1986 and was honored beyond words to be the 2009 National Chair of the Board. George has written three songs for the ADA – “Sarah’s Dream”, “We Can Win The Game”, and “One Small Step”. It is one of life’s rare pleasures to combine passion for mission and music. George donates most of the proceeds of his album sales to the ADA and other charities. He is fortunate that the day job has covered the music expenses. Perhaps someday that will turn around… (It would help if you would download a few dozen copies of the songs!)

George encourages anyone wanting to learn more about diabetes or the American Diabetes Association to check out their website at http://www.diabetes.org/. Thanks for listening.
